MMQB: Another Look At A Reduction In Sanctions

Brian Spurlock-US PRESSWIRE

Let's reassess this thing.

Tomorrow will be the one year anniversary of NCAArmegedon when Penn State received its punishment from Mark Emmert in the wake of the Sandusky verdict and release of the Freeh Report. Here's that open thread if you want to take a trip down memory lane.

In the first post from this series, I asked what you, the readers, thought of the possibility of the sanctions being reduced. Most were pessimistic to say the least. Well what has happened since?

Governor Tom Corbett filed a lawsuit on behalf of the Commonwealth and it was thrown out like a tenant with three months rent past due. The Paterno family has also a filed a lawsuit and we'll see if that fares any better. The Penn State Board of Trustees has finally come out and said that the Freeh Report probably isn't the final word on what went down in the administrative offices in Happy Valley in 1998 and 2001. And finally, Bill O'Brien presented to the BOT at the last meeting at Penn State Fayette about a plan to ask the NCAA to reduce the sanctions against the program, saying that he would hope the NCAA would see the progress Penn State has made and "meet us [Penn State] halfway".

So, we ask again...

How likely is it that the NCAA will reduce a part or all of the sanctions they handed down to Penn State a year ago? Has your opinion changed at all over the past year?
