Hack/receivers/RB's (lumping together for brevity): A-
Kicking: B+ (Sam good, Butters needs to improve)
Special teams: B- (tackling/wrapping up still an issue)
Remember how certain coaches seem to have Joe's number? I wonder if O'Leary will be one of those for BOB. BOB seemed to get out-of-control once we got behind -- the student trying too hard to impress the teacher? And this is the second time we have seen him be mistaken about the down and distance (last year on Mauti's huge INT return is the other example). His guys upstairs need to be talking louder to him, or something. As a corollary, he needs to work on clock management. It would have made a diff yesterday . . .
Butler also seemed to not have the defense prepared. Did he somehow let those guys think UCF was a lesser opponent? Has he not learned the old "On any given Saturday . . . " adage?
I am proud of the way the team did not quit. Down by 11 at half, after some stunningly quick scores by UCF, they could have folded their tents and gone home. Instead, they outscored UCF 21 - 13 in the second; unfortunately it wasn't enough.
Next week, Kent State. Another chance to get things in order, before facing another high-powered offense in Indiana. Our D will get tested again against the Hoosier offense; I hope for a much better result.
Finally, screw the haters, esp. those who point to us as letting down the conference. After their treatment of us, the B1G can eat crap and bark at the moon. Why not point a finger at highly ranked Michigan, who almost crapped the bed against Akron? (And would have without the usual officiating help.)
