UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State Athletics today announced variable pricing structure for its single game public football tickets during the 2014 season. Variable pricing determines individual game prices from many factors including expected demand for that game, and will provide more pricing choices for Penn State fans this season.

"We have been listening to our fans and as a result will extend a variable pricing structure for football for the first time this season," said Director of Athletics Dave Joyner. "This structure provides more pricing choices to accommodate rising travel costs and tightening family budgets, while also ensuring that our season ticket holders are receiving a great value for their loyalty and support."

Single game tickets will go on sale to the general public in July for Coach James Franklin's inaugural season, with tickets being available for as low as $40 for some games. Click here for a full list of prices by section for the 2014 football season.

"Starting this past fall, we studied the Nittany Lion TicketExchange, other secondary markets and analyzed direct tickets sales patterns and prices," said Jeff Garner, Penn State Assistant Athletic Director for Ticket Sales and Service. "Using this data coupled with feedback from our fans, we feel we've developed the best system possible to give increased value to our season ticket holders, address the demand for more pricing options and put Penn State in a better position to fill Beaver Stadium game-in and game-out."

Variable pricing is common throughout ticketed sporting events and is used for home football games at some Big Ten institutions, including Ohio State, Wisconsin, Iowa and Maryland.

Single game ticket prices for Nittany Lion Club members will be released later this week. Variable pricing does not affect Nittany Lion Club donations.

Season ticket renewals are being taken online and Nittany Lion Club members are reminded that the deadline for donations is February 1, 2014. There was once again no increase in season tickets prices for Penn State football for the 2014 season. New season tickets are available by calling 1-800-NITTANY, weekdays from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Fans with any questions about the new variable pricing system should refer to the Variable Pricing FAQ page or contact 1-800-NITTANY.

Penn State announced the hiring of James Franklin as its 16th head football coach on Jan. 11. Coach Franklin and the Nittany Lions open the 2014 season on Aug. 30 vs. UCF in Dublin, Ireland at the Croke Park Classic.

Penn State returns 15 starters (7 offense, 7 defense, 1 specialist) and will host Rose Bowl Champion Michigan State (Nov. 29), Ohio State (Oct. 25), Northwestern (Sept. 27-Homecoming) and Maryland (Nov. 1) during its 2014 Big Ten home schedule. The Nittany Lions will play a trio of 2013 Top 10 teams next season.
