Let's share our Joseph Vincent Paterno stories today

Today marks the 2nd anniversary of the passing of Joseph Vincent Paterno. I thought the BSD writers would post a story, but as of 4 PM EST, there is not one.

Anyway, I thought I would start a FanPost to tell our favorite JoePa stories.

Here are two stories of mine, one personal and one that was reported.

Sept 14, 2003 IIRC. We beat Nebraska the night before 18-10. We are out walking our dogs over in the land that Penn State is now using for the Arboretum. Our dogs are off leash and as we round a corner, they take off. We figure they saw another dog or an animal, but we hear a man telling them to stop jumping on him. It was Joe, just out for a long walk. We apologize but he takes it in stride and says something to effect that his grandkids climb and jump on him too. We were still embarrassed that our dogs got his jacket all muddy.

I recall Joe having an issue with a particular driver on campus in the past decade. When he caught up to the car, he supposedly got out, and scolded the female driver for her erratic behavior. The passenger stood up and said "that's my wife you're talking to." To which Joe supposedly replied, "Buddy, that's your problem!"
