Former Penn State running back and defensive back Gary Brown has a 15 year old daughter with chronic myeloid leukemia. Brown is now the running backs coach for the Dallas Cowboys. His daughter is bi-racial and according to the article this makes finding a match very difficult. Only 9% of blood marrow donors are African-American.
"I'm trying to hang in there," Brown told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "The whole bone marrow thing is scary. With no match, it's even scarier. We have to pray we are going to find one. We don't have a timetable. All we know is it's not going to be good if she doesn't get one."
Brown is working with the Children's Medical Center in Texas and a website called bethematch.org. I hope that by sharing this story that it increases the chances of his daughter finding the potentially life saving match that she do desperately needs at this time.
