Do you root for Penn State football, but another team in basketball?

I have at least two friends who are die hard Penn State football fans, but root for other schools when it comes to basketball. One roots for North Carolina. The other pulls for Duke. All three of us grew up in Pennsylvania and I am the only one that has left our hometown. I have always found it puzzling that they could root for one school in football and another in basketball. The Duke fan even states that he'd root for Duke over Penn State in basketball. I am not sure about the Carolina fan.

I cannot bring myself to do this. I actively root against Carolina and Duke. I think that if you lived in North Carolina as a non-native like I do, you would, too. I find both fan bases a little less than pleasant. When the NCAA tourney arrives and Penn State will in all likely hood be left out I will find myself once again not having a horse in the race. I will hope for the schools from Pennsylvania to do well. I will hope for the Catholic schools to do well, but I won't really care.
