For the first time in maybe the history of The Pennsylvania State University, formidable weather was not in the forecast for last weekend's Blue/White game. I'd really appreciate the feedback of when the last time occurred for personal preferences. I was worried for a while during my walk to Beaver that I'd start sweating through my shirt and I'd have to keep my jacket on (yes, I was in a suit).
I knew it was too good to be true, though.
Everyone's frustration had to be through the roof after watching Bubba and little Jordan Spieth tear up Augusta over the weekend, only to have to break out the jackets and mittens Tuesday and Wednesday. I guess I shouldn't get my hopes up anymore.
Hopefully it will at least be nice for the Herb Hand Pizza Crawl in a couple of weeks. That's all we have to look forward to, I guess. This is getting depressing, let's talk some Nits!
Penn State cooled down a little bit over the weekend after starting out the Big Ten season on a roll. After taking the first game 5-4, the Nittany Lions dropped the next two games 7-0 and 12-6 respectively.
Senior Tim Dunn picked up the win on Friday improving his record to 2-0 on the season. Dunn went five innings giving up three earned runs on five hits.
At 5-3 in the conference, Penn State still sits fourth behind Indiana, Nebraska and Illinois.
This Week Ahead: Illinois comes to State College this weekend for a three-game series starting Friday. Sources have not confirmed yet if Illini football coach Tim Beckman will be coming along and setting up shop outside Nittany Apartments this weekend.
The Illini are coming off a 6-2 defeat by the great Illinois State Redbirds on Tuesday. More importantly, the Illini may be coming in with some new gear for the weekend. We'll see if the baseball team has some new digs for the weekend clash between two teams fighting to stay close to the top of the Big Ten.
Penn State had their six-game winning streak snapped on Sunday. It's swift turnaround for a team that lost 18 of 19 prior to the six-game streak.
Sophomore outfielder Lexi Knief still leads the team in batting average, runs and hits.
This Week Ahead: Penn State welcomes Bucknell into town tonight for a double header. Wisconsin rounds out the week as they come into State College for a three-game set.
The bros got back on track with an 8-1 win over Towson this past weekend. The best part of playing at Towson has to be the fact they played at Johnny Unitas Stadium. Could you imagine, #JohnnyLacrosse back in the day?
The women on the other hand are still struggling to get rolling down the stretch of their season. Penn State dropped game Sunday at Ohio State 10-9 and have lost three of four.
This Week Ahead: The men take on the Delaware Fightin' Joe Flaccos Saturday and the women get Johns Hopkins on Friday. I think I know Mr. Hopkins.
It's so hard to try and talk about tennis and take it serious after my last post. I highly suggest checking it out.
Anyway, the JV team must have went to Indiana this week because for the first time in eight matches, the men lost. 6-1 and 4-2 were the decisions from Purdue and Indiana respectively.
The women continued their recent struggles dropping 6-1 matches against Purdue and Indiana as well.
This Week Ahead: The men close out the regular season at home this weekend against Nebraska and Iowa while the women will head to Nebraska and Iowa to wrap up their regular seasons. It's such a shame they won't be there when the crops are high. There's not a better view than the beautiful rows of heaven in the flatlands.
Well, Bubba is Mr. Immortal once again and Jordan Spieth is apparently Tiger Woods II. Everyone, stop doing that please. Nobody can ever live up to not only the dominance, but also the emotional impact on golf like Tiger had. Can we just enjoy a great golfer who has a lot of promise? Remember what everyone thought about Rory before he switched to Nike equipment? STOP IT.
Junior Jens Talbert didn't log the lowest score this weekend in Columbus for Penn State, but it came from sophomore JD Dornes.
This Week Ahead: The men will host the Rutherford Invitational this weekend. The women are still preparing for the Big Ten Championship in French Lick, Ind.
The business trip to St. Francis was successful as predicted. 3-1 to be exact. Maurice Stokes is still one of the best and most under appreciated players in the Naismith Hall of Fame. Just throwing that out there.
This Week Ahead: The regular season wraps up for Penn State with trips to Rutgers-Newark and NJIT this weekend.
