So I have been in football withdrawal since the season has ended. I have been following recruiting more so than I have in the past (whether it is creepy or not may be debate for another day). But the reason for this post is this: I have transitioned from casually acknowledging Rutgers had a football team, to openly hating their team, fans, program etc. Being from PA I already hated the entire state of NJ so this transition was smoother than anticipated.
I find myself looking at Rutgers message boards, not commenting, but just reading and taking in the sheer delusion that is their entire program. If a recruit chooses us, they must not have been "good" enough for Rutgers, whatever that means.
When we landed Juwan Johnson, he was quoted as saying "I wasn't bothered by the scandal because I knew they had recovered". This set off a firestorm as to whether or not Johnson condones rape, etc., much like we have seen everywhere else. The ironic thing is, these comments seem to be dividing their own fan base. Their OWN FANS are condemning the use of something so idiotic as a retort to getting outrecruited.
This is a lot of rambling, but this brings me to my point. I know Rutgers is not a good team, and we SHOULD beat them this year. But there is not a team out there I want to beat by 50 points more than Rutgers. I dislike Ohio State, but have met a lot of nice tOSU fans. I dislike Mich, but have met a lot of nice Mich fans. I have never for the life of me met a decent Rutgers fan. Maybe it is the fact that they are in NJ (apologies to anyone PSU fans who live there), or maybe they just are bad people with no love in their heart, I cannot say for sure. Either way, September 13th cannot get here soon enough.
