This week, we reached our funding goal to publish We Are! 2014, a Penn State football preview magazine written by us bloggers and a few pros. There are just about 30 hours left to preorder a copy, but if you miss the deadline, that doesn't mean you're out of luck. We will be offering post-Kickstarter sales after the preorders are processed. Stay tuned for details.
For today, I thought I'd share a quick preview of some of the exclusives we will have in this year's magazine, starting with what is shaping up to be one hell of a feature.
The Secret Life of a Penn State Quarterback
After the head coach, the Penn State quarterback is the most famous person on campus and almost the entire state. Not just on the field, but off it--in the classroom, in public, dealing with the coaches, television/media expectations, social media, and more. Mike Poorman, columnist for StateCollege.com and senior lecturer for the College of Communications, takes readers behind the scenes with exclusive one-on-one interviews with some of the most famous names in Penn State football history: Todd Blackledge, Michael Robinson, Matt Knizner, Wally Richardson, Matt McGloin, and current Nittany Lion quarterback Christian Hackenberg. Head coach James Franklin will also share some exclusive thoughts on what makes and breaks a starting quarterback. You don't want to miss this one.
Still Undefeated, Still Screwed (working title, so gimme a break)
Twenty years after Penn State's 1994 squad ran the table with what has been regarded as one of the best offenses in college football history, the lack of a championship that year still burns within the Nittany Lion community. Many fans look back on that season as one of ultimate joy, but forever capped with total frustration after Penn State was screwed by voters out of even a share of the national title. Penn State's most prestigious historian and author, Lou Prato, not only recounts that 12-0 season, but offers a personal side of the story exclusive to We Are! 2014. From his tailgates to the weekly pollsters, and an encounter with a Buckeye quarterback, Lou offers up a story unlike any you'll read on this 20th anniversary of Penn State's last undefeated season.
Feel free to share these teasers with your Penn State friends and family. And remember, even if you or they miss out on the preorder period (which ends tomorrow!), we will have an open public sales option soon.
And again, thank you to all the backers who have supported us and the magazine.
