Only 78 days stand between us and the season opener against UCF in Ireland, and to commemorate it, we're honoring none other than Mike Munchak. After a strong three-year playing career at PSU, Munchak would go on to become the 8th overall pick by the Houston Oilers (aka the Tennessee Titans) in the 1982 NFL draft. In a showing of loyalty that is extremely rare for the professional game, Munchak remained with the franchise in some capacity for over 30 years.
After an 11-year playing career, Munchak began a lengthy coaching career as an offensive line coach and later, the head coach of the Titans for two years, before being fired this past offseason. Munchak has since landed on his feet as an offensive line coach with the Pittsburgh Steelers after yet again, being rumored to be one of the front-runners for the Penn State head coaching job this past January. Although he hasn't been involved with the PSU program since his playing days, Munchak remains one of more beloved lettermen amongst the Nittany Lion faithful. Here's to wishing him great success in the years ahead with the 'Stillers.'
