I just read on Testudo Times that Spencer Myers from Selinsgrove is going to be playing football for the Terrapins this year. He was and I hope still is on Kerry McCoy's wrestling team. I am pleased with this development and it is something I would like to see more often. Wrestling and football work well with each other, especially for linemen and linebackers. Penn State has a history of athletes participating in both sports. Dave Joyner is an example and I have been told that Mike Reid also wrestled and played football. According to TT the Terps now have two athletes splitting time between both sports.
So which Penn State wrestlers do you think would make good football players and which football players would do well on the mats? I know that Mike Hull was a very good wrestler for Cannon-McMillan. I am not sure if he won a state title or not. Lawson played football at some school in New Jersey before flipping to wrestling so he'd probably hold his own on the gridiron. It would be funny to see the little guys like Retherford out there on the football field, but I can't imagine him actually playing. Imagine a big guy with Ed Ruth's body control on the football field. He'd be unstoppable. I think Zwinak would make a hell of a good wrestler. He seems to have that crazy streak that all good wrestlers need.
