10 Reasons Why Ohio State is by Far the Nittany Lions Biggest Game of the Season

It will be Saturday, October 25, 2014, 8 o'clock P.M. eastern time in Happy Valley with Beaver stadium filled up to almost 110,000 people including myself all wearing white. It will be broadcast-ed on ABC or ESPN as prime time television and most likely the college football game of the week with probably more several hundred thousand watching from the bar or at home. This alone makes it a big game for new Coach James Franklin and the nittany lions, yet there is so much more meaning to this game than just that. I am here to tell you ten reasons why despite what may happen the rest of the season, why the Ohio State game is the game that will have the most impact on the future of the Penn State football program.

1.) As stated before it is a white out and the crowd will be rocking and very very loud. To be honest I do not think there is a better college football atmosphere than a white out prime time game in State College. I am not being biased. It has been proven multiple times with surveys given throughout the country.

2.) It is prime time television. There will be recruits and people from all over the country watching this game, as well as many potential recruits visiting State College. I know Penn State sure does not want to disappoint.

3.) It is OHIO STATE, they are a big rival and even though Penn State has beaten Michigan, Penn State has not defeated Ohio State since they were diagnosed with the Sanctions from the Jerry Sandusky scandal now almost three years ago.

4.) It is URBAN MEYER, and besides Ohio State fans who really likes this guy? He is weird, arrogant, and even going back to his Florida days, Penn State has never beaten an Urban Meyer coached team. I think this is the year James Franklin and Penn State put an end to that and put Urban Meyer in his place.

5.) When James Franklin took over as head coach this January, he made a promise too dominate the state of Pennsylvania in recruiting and boy has he kept his word. Many recruiting sources including ESPN, has Penn State the number four recruiting class in the nation for the class of 2015 and that is with the sanction limited scholarships. Majority of these recruits are high profile players from good ole Pennsylvania. A win over Ohio State may help Penn State's chances to steal some high caliber players from the state of Ohio that in the past may have chosen Ohio State over Penn State. As we all know anything is possible with James Franklin at the helm.

6.) Revenge from last year. Penn State and Ohio State played in prime time television last Fall but that was at the Horseshoe under former Penn State coach Bill O'Brien. Unfortunately, Ohio State manhandled Penn State 63-14 that night. Ohio State embarrassed the nittany lions defense making it look like they were a high school football team. I am sure plenty of the Penn State players remember that game and would love nothing better than to get some sweet revenge on their home turf.

7.) Larry Johnson. Larry Johnson coached for Penn State as their defensive line coach for many years. Larry Johnson is one the most good hearted, respectful and like able guys you will meet. I have nothing but the up most respect for LJ and honestly understand why he felt hurt not getting the head coaching position for this up coming season. LJ put his heart and soul into Penn State for many many seasons and stuck by Penn State's side during the toughest times, even helping Penn State through the devasting sanctions and death of legendary coach Joe Paterno who helped build Penn State into what it is today. At the same time how slime ball head coach of Ohio State Urban Meyer then persuaded him to leave and come to Ohio State, once LJ found out he would not be the next head coach, leaves a little bit of a bad taste in many Penn State football fans mouths. Urban Meyer purposely did this. He is now a little worried about competing against James Franklin and Penn state in the recruiting scene. To try and help out his own cause he thought stealing one of our former best recruiters and defensive line coach would help turn former and future Penn State recruits into Ohio Staters. So far his plan has not worked and a win against Ohio State will do nothing but have his plan backfire on him for sure.

8.) This game in general is huge for recruiting. There are tons of recruits across the nation that have Penn State and Ohio State as schools they are considering and a win by Penn State would be huge in helping them lean towards coming to Happy valley.

9.) Unless the sanctions are reduced really soon, unfortunately, Penn State still will not be eligible for a bowl game, playoffs, or able to play in the Big Ten Championship. Ohio State on the other hand has all that to play for. With almost a near perfect season last year until a loss to Michigan State in the Big Ten championship, expectations for Ohio State are high this season. There is a chance when this game is played Ohio State could be undefeated and still have playoff, national championship, and most likely Big Ten championship hopes still alive. A win by Penn state could be a crushing blow to Ohio State and any of the goals they had this season. How awesome would that be.

10.) Last but not least this is a chance to show the world that despite the near death penalty sanctions that was handed down to Penn State a couple years ago, that Penn State for a fact is back and not going anywhere. While many thought the sanctions would destroy the football team and cause them to be bad for many years to come. The truth is Penn State has had a winning season every year since the sanctions were announced and with James Franklin and his elite recruiting, the future is looking brighter than ever. It seems only a matter of time before Penn State is going to be a force to be reckoned with nationally. A win in this game would prove to the rest of the nation that no matter how hard you try you can never bring down WE ARE PENN STATE!

This Penn State verse Ohio State game obviously is a big one. I know I will be at the game and many of my friends and family along with hundreds of thousands of other people will be watching it. Mean really what else is there better to do on a late Fall October Night. What will you be doing?
