Maryland DT Commit Cam Spence Schedules PSU Official Visit
After committing to the Terrapins in early April, Cam Spence has stayed true to his pledge to Maryland. But he now appears willing to take official visits, with the Nittany Lions getting one for their clash against Minnesota.
Does Penn State have a true shot to flip Spence? That remains to be seen. There was a point where Spence favored Ohio State and Penn State, but he ended up receiving much more attention from the hometown Terrapins. I believe the Nittany Lions will only take one true defensive tackle in 2017, and since there aren’t exactly a ton of names banging on Penn State’s door, I think you could see James Franklin increase the pursuit of Spence come the fall.
DT Donovan Jeter Committing on Halloween
WPIAL defensive tackle Donovan Jeter announced that he will be making his commitment on October 31, but all signs point to Pitt being the choice. Penn State is probably the only other school with a shot, but I use the term “shot” loosely since he hasn’t been to Happy Valley since the Lasch Bash... in 2015.
Penn State Makes Top 5 for 2018 RB Ricky Slade
2018 continue to looks like a strong recruiting year for the Nittany Lions, who made the top five of 5-star running back Ricky Slade. Joining Penn State on the list is Virginia Tech, Tennessee, Florida, and North Carolina.
No commitment is imminent for Slade, but Penn State has done a fantastic job with the Virginia product. He’s been to Happy Valley multiple times in the last two years, and is a good example of what James Franklin means when he talks about building relationships.
There’s still a long way to go, but this is shaping up to be a Penn State-Virginia Tech battle. Let’s hope the Nittany Lions can enact some revenge on the Hokies stealing a five-star running back from Pennsylvania many moons ago.
2018 Ohio OG Visits Penn State
Penn State hasn’t received a ton of visits this fall camp, but Ohio offensive guard Blaine Scott made the trip to Happy Valley last weekend. While only listed as a three-star prospect, Scott boasts an impressive offer sheet with Florida, Miami, Michigan State, and a myriad of other programs already offering the rising junior.
With Ohio State trending more and more nationally for recruiting, Penn State has made a much more concerted effort in Ohio. Of course, Scott could end up earning an offer from the Buckeyes, but to this point, he’s on the outside looking in which bodes well for the Nittany Lions.
