It appears the fraternity involved in the beer can throwing incident will be facing heavy sanctions.
The State College Police Department is "well along in the investigation" of the events that happened at the rear of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, 417 E. Prospect Ave., this weekend, Lt. Dana Leonard said.
While the investigation continues, Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity has been suspended by the Pi Kappa Alpha International Fraternity and the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life.
Excellent. Everyone that attended that party and either participated in that incident or stood idly by doing nothing needs to look themselves in the mirror and ask themselves if they honorably represented their fellow students and Penn State alumni. This should serve as a good wake up call to make them think long and hard about their role and responsibilities as Penn State students and Pi Kappa Alpha members.
(HT to the good readers again. Maybe I should just let you all run BSD.)

Sanctions
Good thing he's a film major. Given the quality of film making during the past decade, I predict big things for him.

Beer Throwing
My take: Just a couple of college kids having way too much booze and out of control. Like this has never happened before. Why front page? This could and has happened on any campus at any college or university whether private or public. I know where the students of several universities in New York State that host "pub crawls", "beer runs" and the like. Similar to what SC used to have some time ago (I believe it was the Phi Si 500; sorry its been a while)). "Everyone" is opposed to them; nonetheless they occur every year. I just love it when the local political hacks and university reps show there "united opposition to this reprehensible behavior". All the while the event occurs, on schedule, every year. Yeah right; show me the money!
I don't care if the kid was from Pitt, PSU, IUP or CUP. It happens everywhere. This is not a "PSU only" problem. Not one college or university can claim immunity to this type of behavior.
I just hope that they were wasting cheap beer and not some good ales! Sorry had to get my digs in.

Unitboy
The fact that this behavior happens everywhere doesn't make it right. We should never accept this type of behavior and explain it away as just crazy college kids getting drunk and having a good time. Visiting fans should be treated with respect and hospitality when they come to Happy Valley. I don't want this to be the image of my university. Boo the team, but be nice to the fans.

Oops!
To clarify: I am disappointed that this is receiving so much coverage. Yes, it is a problem and there is far worse in the world today. It seems as if the coverage is stating that this is a PSU problem while at the same time trying to deflect the blame to a student from a different university.
I do not agree with the behavior; I do not condone it. However, I guess I was trying to state that the behavior happens at every college and university (save a few very strict institutions). All colleges and universities should be re-evaluating the drinking/gathering issue; not just PSU.
I guess my point was misunderstood due to my lack of clarity. I am very disappointed in the media coverage; three days! Front page! Come on. This should have had one day of coverage, then a follow-up as to the arrests/suspensions, etc.
I've been bit by the media before; I guess my response should have been more clear as to my disenchantment with the media coverage. At the same time, I should know better with the "instant coverage" any event receives due to the internet.
Again, please accept my sincerest apologies. It is not my intent to be a troll. This is a great site to discuss PSU football with individuals of similar interest. I will make all attempts to stay in line with that topic. I would appreciate it if you do not ban me from the site. Thanks.

It's all good
I guess my irritation came in trying to explain this away by saying this happens everywhere. I don't think we should use that to justify it. Yeah it sucks that this has been in the papers and on tv all week, but those PKA morons brought it on themselves by a) video taping it and b) putting it on the internet. All I can try to do here is defend the honor of our Dear Ol' State.

I actually agree with him
To my knowledge - the only charges that have been filed are of the summary general "disturbing the piece" variety - and I doubt that it's going to go much farther than that as it doesn't appear that the tosu kids involved are complaining witnesses.
In the long run, I believe that the people who will be feeling the repercussions from this event are us - this is just more fodder for Spanier's campaign to "phase out" pre-game activities - even if this did happen off campus.
For what it's worth, no one I know (because no one I know seems to be able to figure out what a blog is) even knows that this happened - heck I had to inform most of my fellow PSUers (including my mother who works at PSU and lives in State College) about the fight this summer.
What has surprised me is the vicious and visceral reaction from other bloggers/fans - there's a lot of hate out there for Penn State - I had no idea.
I have a very long winded and pretty unfounded theory about "kids today" - it involves interesting talking points such as nuclear weaponry the historical diagnosis of learning disabilities - but I'll spare you the hypotheses and proofs.
