We're All Hokies Today
This is just shocking news. A gunman has killed 29 people on the campus of Virginia Tech today. More people are in the hospital and the death toll is expected to rise.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families. This is just so senseless I don't even know what to say.
UPDATE: I see a lot of people hitting this post by googling "We are all Hokies". Before you go, please make sure you read my follow up post. May God bless you all.

Shame on ESPN Radio
I will definitely say a prayer for all those affected by the shootings and hope that we find a way to limit and perhaps end these shootings somehow.

Times like this...
On the other hand, this is why we have sports. Real life is often tough and too often senseless. From time to time, it's nice to lose oneself in a game, in scouting reports about a game, or a fruitless debate with Pitt fans.
Now, however, is not in between those times. Now is a time to be thankful for what we have, and say a prayer for those who have less as a result of the tragedy in Blacksburg.

No shame on ESPN
Too often we have people in the media commenting on things they are not qualified to, or chartered to, comment on. ESPN avoided that yesterday, and in doing so left the actual coverage of the situation to other news programming (of which it's parent company has plenty).
In regards to Patrick covering Don Imus' insults to the Rutgers Women BB team last week - that had a definite sports angle, and therefore was appropiate to discuss on his show.
