Nittany Lions Represented in the NFL Draft

Three Nittany Lions just made a lot of money today when they were selected in the NFL draft.

Brown was selected fifth overall by the Arizona Cardinals. There was much speculation that Levi would end up with the Dolphins at #9, but the Cardinals have a tremendous need on the offensive line and decided to fill it. Brown is the first Penn Stater to be chosen in the top five since Courtney Brown and Lavar Arrington were chosen 1-2 in 2000.

Poz was taken as the second pick of the second round (34th overall) by the Buffalo Bills. The Bills traded up with Detroit just to get Poz. They are thin at linebacker, so Poz has a chance to play almost right away. The guys at Buffalo Rumblings are ecstatic to have landed Poz.

Jay Alford was selected in the 18th pick of the third round (#81 overall) by the New York Giants. I'm not yet sure how he'll fit into their defense. Giants fans have mixed emotions. Many boards had Alford going in later rounds. Perhaps the Giants saw something they liked on film. Alford didn't test well at the combine due to some nagging injuries.

Tony Hunt has been drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles with the 27th pick of the 3rd Round (#90 overall). With the talented Michael Brian Westbrook getting up in age and constantly fighting injury, Hunt will provide instant depth and durability to their offensive run game. He will work out great for their one back offense as he can pass block and catch a pass with the best of them. Eagles fans seem pretty pleased with this pick.

Congratulations to all these guys. It's going to be a blast to watch them play on Sundays.

The first day is over with Tim Shaw and Ed Johnson among the notable Nittany Lions still on the table. I'm kind of shocked Tim Shaw didn't go. He had a great combine and workout session. All indications are he'll go early in the fourth round. Johnson had a chance to go on the first day, but too many off the field incidents killed his draft stock.

May our lives, but swell thy fame
Dear Ol' State, Dear Ol' State

Embarressing
OMG I can't believe you made that mistake!  You live in PHILADELPHIA for Pete's sake.  Your wife is an Eagles fan, as is everyone around you, even if you are not.

Brian Westbrook...star of the Eagles.

In Conlan's Shoes
Poz took number 31 at Penn State because he hoped to live up to the legacy of Shane Conlan.  He did pretty well in that regard and now he has the chance to do it at the next level in Buffalo, where Conlan played on several Super Bowl teams.  I couldn't be happier for Poz, a fine example of what Penn State football is all about.

And Tony Hunt going to the Eagles must surely have been an accident.  Didn't someone tell them he was from Penn State?  It's WAY past time the Eagles drafted a Penn Stater and Tony could be just the inside runner they need!  Hope it works out.
