Who's to blame for the Phillies' struggles? Bar-right-arrows

Why Must Charlie Weis Explain Everything to You?

My third chin is smarter than you!
This may become a recurring feature here at BSD. Every time I read a Charlie Weis quote I come away with a new appreciation for how arrogant the man is. Today's Charlie Weis reminder that he's smarter than you involves the Notre Dame starting quarterback situation.
Thursday night following practice, Weis said for the first time he had made his choice.

"I'm absolutely sure who the starting quarterback is," he said.

Weis became agitated when asked further about his choice.

"Do you think I'm going to be so fickle that I won't know who the quarterback is going to be?" he asked.

Pressed further, Weis said he has known for a week or two who would start. But he said he still hasn't told the player.

"I'm not positive if he knows. Because if I told him, then he'd have to lie to you if you asked him the question," Weis said.

Although Weis knows the starter, all three are continuing to work with the first team offense. Weis said he hasn't told the team who will start, but he thinks they know.

"I think if they haven't figured it out by now then they're not very smart," Weis said.

He knows who the starting quarterback is. He wants you to know he knows who the starting quarterback is. But he's not going to tell you because then he wouldn't be smarter than you anymore. Give it a rest, Charlie.

Heh... this will backfire
What's funny is that starter doesn't get as many reps with the first team offense. Could work out in our favor come September 8.

The pot calling the kettle....
How is Weis' "arrogance" any differ than when Paterno was questioned with regard to the punishment of Scirrotto and Baker?  Mike, you yourself said "He's already decided the stadium cleaning punishment was necessary. But here he says he's playing it by ear? What we're seeing here is Joe stonewalling."  Or JoePa's superiority when later asked about playing Coastal Carolina?

Weis' response to a dumb question is no different than the responses that Paterno regularly gives to reporters.

Just another example of your obsession with Charlie Weis and Notre Dame.  Give it a rest, Mike.

Forget the media for a second...
I just don't get how you can coach players that way. "They're smart, maybe they've figured it out."

Maybe this is motivation, who knows? But if the decisions been made, why not actually go forward with that plan? Be secretive all you want outside of practice, but we keep the players guessing?

Jerry
Notre Dame gets more hype than any other team out there. Jimmy Clausen's tennis elbow has gotten more media coverage than any other third string quarterback body part I can ever remember. It's nauseating when you can't turn on ESPN or surf through the internet without being inundated with Notre Dame coverage. That's why we talk about Notre Dame so much here and not as much about Michigan or Ohio State, though I guess you didn't catch my Ohio State preview the other day. I would submit our Notre Dame coverage is about the norm if you compare it to ESPN or other blogs. We just have a more negative slant, but then we're a PSU blog. What do you expect?

I think there is a difference between Weis and Paterno. Paterno just calls a lousy question a lousy question and doesn't answer it. Weis talks down to reporters and publicly calls his players stupid. Maybe both are arrogance, but I think there is a difference.

My advice to you is if you don't like this blog go get your own blog and bash Paterno or heap praise on Weis all you want.

freaks. seriously. freaks.
Mike,

I read this entry and thought "oh, I have to check out the comments" because I knew that there would be a ND homer defending Weis and, wouldn't cha know it, there is the prototypical "if you say anything about Weis that doesn't include accolades for the man or offers of performing fellatio on him" then you are "obsessed".

Jerry is another ND homer who literally scours the internets daily for negative postings to anything ND and then promptly accuses the poster of obsession.  Yet, when you mull it over it is obvious that these are the people suffering from obsession becaues this is all they do, defend Weis and ND.

They are freaks.  Oh my god are they freaks.  And I mean that without attempting to be ironic or funny.  Because I really believe it.  Freaks.  All of them.

Super Freak
Actually, believe it or not, I am a huge Nittany Lion fan.  I am just amazed at the number of posts that consistently appear on this blog regarding Notre Dame.  You would think that Notre Dame is the #1 rival of all time to the Lions.

I challenge you to count over the past 6 months the number of posts on this site that have been critical of Michigan, Ohio State or other Big Televen teams and compare that to those critical of Notre Dame.

I don't read this blog to hear about Charlie Weis or Notre Dame.  I am interested in Penn State.

If that makes me a freak, than I am a Super Freak.

Cocaine's a hell of drug
For some people growing up in Pennsylvania, there are only 2 camps - Penn State and Notre Dame. So yeah, to many they're the number 1 rival of all time, I know you are having difficulty with that concept.

I see what you are saying, but..........
Let's say Paterno and Weis are equally condescending and arrogant with some of their comments......the difference for me is that Weis hasn't earned the right yet (if there is such a thing) to be an ass and get away with it......to me he is like the guy that shows up at work the first day and starts calling everybody by their nicknames before noon.  It just doesn't set well for some reason.

All I'm going to say is this...
the man is tough to look at. Just look at him...what is he doing? smelling his lips to remind him of the double bacon cheeseburger he just devoured?

GENIUS
if notre dame wins more than 8 games this year, weis will have earned his "genius" status.

by which i mean: no way in heck notre dame wins 9 or more games this year.  i don't even know why they'll show up to play penn state, michigan, ucla, and usc. those will be unholy bloodbaths.  i see no reason to believe that notre dame is better than purdue or georgia tech.  in spite of the streak, navy has been close a few times in the last decade, and i'm not putting it past the midshipmen to pull it off this year. and as bad as michigan state is, dantonio will have them ready for that game.

it's willingham all over again. what is it about notre dame coaches that make them so good at recruiting for the next coach but so poor at recruiting for themselves?

I too
have a problem with Weis. Always been a Notre Dame fan, but Weis, gag. His success as the college level is overblown - getting into two BCS bowls has been more because of political circumstances than his teams.

Once again, gag on Weis. Still, Notre Dame kind of deserves him.
