Terrelle Pryor Will Announce This Week

Congratulations to Terrelle Pryor and his teammates from Jeannette for winning the PIAA AA Basketball Championship. You would think tonight would be a night of celebrating with his teammates. A night for kicking back and savoring the victory. It seems like an odd time to say this.

One of the more protracted recruiting battles in recent memory will come to an end this week. Scout.com five-star quarterback Terrelle Pryor said Saturday he will make his college choice sometime next week.

Pryor made the comment after leading his Jeannette (Pa.) High basketball team to a AA state championship at Penn State's Bryce Jordan Center. He had 23 points, eight rebounds and five blocks in the 76-72 win over Philadelphia's Strawberry Mansion.

Pryor, who had been considering football scholarships from Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan and Oregon, said he has narrowed the field to two schools. But he declined to say which two schools.

He will not make any more visit between now and the time he makes up his mind.

Interesting theory that began floating around the Penn State message boards this morning: Could Pryor have ruled out Penn State weeks ago but just strung the Nittany Lions along until he got past this string of games in the Jordan Center? Think about it. If he had committed to Ohio State back on signing day, how friendly would the Jordan Center have been this afternoon? The Penn State students would have undoubtedly got a head start on booing him before he ever put on the Scarlett and Gray. But instead he was showered with praise as the thousands who packed the Jordan Center cheered his name.

I think it's pretty obvious he's not going to Penn State now. He said a few weeks ago he was going to sign with Ohio State on signing day, but he delayed it out of respect for his father who asked him to give Penn State another look. He said all along he intended to visit Penn State, but now just hours after playing his last basketball game in State College he says he's ready to announce, and oh yeah, he won't be visiting Penn State afterall. The writing is on the wall, people. Terrelle Pryor is a Buckeye.

Wait Though
If he had simply ruled the Nittany Lions out, and left the other three schools in the mix on signing day, do you really think Penn State fans would care enough to come out in force to boo a kid at a high school basketball game?

I don't think most kids would have had that kind of time, and, after probably being booed intensely for 8 months now, I'm sure he and his team would have been used to it if they did.

I have a hard time thinking he went through this whole charade just to avoid some boos.

Listen, there wasn't anything Joe or anyone was going to say to him that hasn't already been said at this point.  I don't think he needs an official visit to Penn State to make his decision.

I'm not saying I think hes going to go to Penn State, but I think we're reading into all of this way to much.

I Can't......
quit thinking about the line in that article somebody linked in here last week....I think it was Carolina Easy.....where TP's High School Coach said if Tom Bradley was the Coach TP would have committed to PSU a long time ago.  Or something to that effect.

I don't think it matters that much at this point.  I would like to see him come to PSU, but I think we look really good at the position right now anyway.

I'm glad it's almost over...
I really could care less if he goes to OSU or UM at this point.  I'm so sick of all the talk about 1 high school kid.  We've got Devlin and Clark (who are big-time talents) for a few years, and I can't wait to see them play.

After...
seeing the issues this kid ran into over the past month or two, I really don't mind the idea of having him play elsewhere.  Penn State has had too many (more than zero is too many) off-the-field problems.  Something about this kid makes me believe that he'll bring his own with him.

Wow
I wonder how UM and OSU fans feel about him?  Mike, can you get a roundtable together on this?  I think that would be a good read.

The naysaying
I've been reading a ridiculous amount of naysaying on scout, RUTS, sometimes here, and various other places. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills, but I don't have this feeling like the sky is falling. Some people think that unless Joe announces some kind of succession plan or retires that Beaver Stadium will explode and all of State College will become a black hole. We may never win another National Title with Joe, but I'm willing to wait. The man deserves to go out when he wants. I'm just getting really tired of the people who forget everything he's done for the University.

Sounds good to me
I don't want him in Nittany Nation anyways. Guys sounds like a typical douchebag. He'll fit right in at OSU.

thank god
it is coming to an end.  I wish he were coming here but since he isn't I hope we knock him out of the first game we play against him (not a serious injury of course).

Oh well
I can't wait for him to say that he's a Buckeye and for him to become their problem. We have to get a QB  for the class of 2009, that's true but I think we would be better off with a combo of Devlin/Clark in 2008 than Terrelle Pryor. They already know the system and either of them can't be worse than Morelli.

Also, I'm pissed that his team beat Mansion, my neighborhood high school.

The game
I went to the game yesterday and tOSU can have him.  The refs constantly had to tell him to keep his mouth shut, and the game should have never went into OT.  There was over 15 seconds left on the clock and they had all the time in the world to score, but TP wanted to be the hero and have the last shot, which he missed.  There were better players on the court at that game and i wasn't impressed.

The Joe haters will come out in force but
The kid has trouble written all over him. He's not a PSU kind of kid anyway. He'll fit in well at tOSUV. He obviously doesn't care about graduating and we don't need that mentality here. I feel bad for Tom Bradley though. The guy put his heart and soul into recruiting this guy. He's all class and I hope he gets his shot eventually. It was a no win situation for Joe even after making the trip in January. If the kid doesn't want to play for the greatest coach in sports history then it's his loss. Our program will go on. We'll be fine with Clark and Devlin.

I'm not sure how to think...
Pryor is an amazing athlete and would help any team, but like a lot of people are saying he has some issues.  My roommates brother was the starting quarterback for Wilmington Area High School (the team he beat in the semi finals) and he said all Pryor did was yell at Wilmington players and taught them the entire pre-game.  He wouldn't even shake the captains' hands at the coin toss.  So even though he's amazing, with our recent off the field issues, he probably isn't the right mold to be a Nittany Lion, but I will welcome him if he decides he is.

it's nice to see...
he's polished on his geography... last i knew state college was IN the country, not like a country. frankly this kid can go to Ohio State and fade into oblivion like every other ohio quarterback

for matter of conversation, Troy Smith is the only qb from ohio state in the NFL, and for heavens sake he's backing up Kyle Boller

Probably a misquote
I'll bet it went more like

State College is like, uh, country to me.

I didn't realize Jeannette was such a metropolis.

Wow...
I'm convinced this Pryor kid is a head case. Does anyone know what his grades and board scores are? Cannot imagine he's be able to get it done in the classroom at PSU.

actually
Hes somewhere in the 3s, so hes not that bad, but I'm sure the basic classes at Jeanette for the #1 recruit in America aren't that great.

I imagine they overlook a few
things given his contributions in athletics. That is typical in small towns. I don't think he has the smarts to be at PSU.

He'll always be second fiddle in my mind to the great Dick Hoak when I think of that town. Now that was a true athlete, scholar and gentleman. Pure class on and off the field.

Back to Prior, we don't need him. Let him go somewhere else. We only want kids that have class at our school that want to play for a legend. That will always define the meaning of the "Penn State kid".

Don't rule out Michigan
Terrelle is all about Terrelle and he HAS to have the spotlight. Keeping people in suspense, leading them to draw a conclusion, and then surprising them by going another direction may be the formula, so don't be surprised by a Michigan announcement. After all, RichRod and Terrelle are two of a kind and they "richly" deserve each other.

i second the 'oh well' comment
Would have been nice, but all along i've been more worried about playing him than 'missing' him on the PSU roster.

As for the Jordan Center thing, wasn't is spring break?  were there any students there this weekend?  I don't really buy the message board thing.

Odd choices
I just find it odd that he's considering Penn State, Michigan, and Ohio State if he's hell-bent on getting to the next level.  Why was USC never one of his choices?  I can't imagine that Pete Carroll wouldn't have offered the top recruit in the country.

Ohio State's and Penn State's track record for QB's isn't stellar - and Michigan will use him as a Pat White replica.  It just doesn't make a lot of sense.
