The report by former FBI director Louis Freeh on how Penn State handled reports that Jerry Sandusky was sexually abusing boys came out today at 8AM CT. The website that was supposed to release the report is having server issues and cannot be accessed. Fortunately, USA Today was ready. Read carefully.
"Jerry Sandusky was convicted Friday of sexually assaulting 10 boys over 15 years, accusations that shattered the Happy Valley image of Penn State football and led to the firing of Hall of Fame coach Joe Paterno. Sandusky, a 68-year-old retired defensive coach who was once Paterno's heir apparent, was found guilty of 45 of 48 counts." Now the son of a bitch can rot in hell.
On 45 counts of sexually assaulting 10 boys over 15 years. I wrote this in November of last year and it still summarizes my feelings on the whole disgusting matter.
The accuser is also reportedly still a minor.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The new president of a charity founded by a former Penn State assistant football coach accused of molesting young boys said Friday the organization is looking at three options for its future and may not close.
Another abuse scandal hit the news. This time at The Citadel. Please tell me these stories aren't going to start coming out of the woodwork. My faith in humanity already took a big hit with the Penn State debacle.
"We have visited with Penn State security and we understand they are enhancing their security efforts for Saturday’s game and are taking extra precautions to ensure that all players, coaches and fans are treated in a respectful way. We also appreciate that there is a student-led effort at Penn State to respectfully welcome Nebraska fans to Beaver Stadium and into the Big Ten Conference. We know that our fans will reciprocate and display good sportsmanship toward Penn State’s fans and players." With that, it's game on for the Huskers on Saturday.
"It is widely acknowledged that Sandusky's game plan was the difference, that he rattled Vinny Testaverde and Miami's impetuous wide receivers by devising confusing coverage schemes and instructing his defensive backs to hit Michael Irvin until he cried. The day after it happened, they played that game on a continuous loop in our high school cafeteria. It is still my favorite football game of all time, a metaphoric triumph of the unadorned hero over the flamboyant villain. I wrote a long piece about it for ESPN, and a portion of a book, that now rings completely hollow. I have the original video recording of it in my living room, and I have thought several times over the past couple of days about taking a hammer to it." - Michael Weinreb, on Grantland.com
There are no words to describe the sickening level of depravity that has happened or how this has played out up until now. I just hope all involved are held accountable.
This sounds very bad and could bring the Paterno/Curley era to a very ugly and sad conclusion. I hope and pray the charges are untrue. EDIT: Sorry, didn't know this was already being discussed.
