Because the stencil lion does NOT look like something that would have been created in 1962. If so, it's a remarkably enduring logo and still looks fresh and contemporary after 47 years. Also, was the quarter-profile lion really the official primary logo from 2001-2004? It would be remarkable that the worst period of PSU football overlapped exactly with the use of this logo. I always assumed this was a secondary logo, but I recall on Gameday they'd use the quarter-profile lion during this period.
