Even without All Big Ten forward Geary Claxton, Penn State had no problems handling Moorehead State in the season opener at the Bryce Jordan Center last night. Sophomore Jamelle Cornley took over the game near the end of the first half. At one point Cornley scored six straight points to spark an 8-0 PSU run to give the Lions a 29-16 lead at the half. Cornley finished with 17 points and 12 rebounds in his second career double-double despite only playing 25 minutes. Cornley left the game in the second half to have his knee examined after feeling some discomfort. Cornley was cleared to play by doctors and returned to the game.
We probably shouldn't get too excited about this win. A W is a W, but Moorehead is not a good team. They only finished 4-23 last season. The Lions will face a much more talented and experienced team in UNC Greensboro at the Jordan Center on Monday night.
