|Penn State (4 ? 1)|
|Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (5 - 1)|
After a thrilling overtime win against Bucknell and a furious comeback against St. Joe?s the Lions will take their act on the road tonight against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.
Tech returns from a nice vacation at the Maui Invitational. How come the Lions can?t get invited to this kind of stuff? Anyway, Yellow Jackets overcame a 16 point deficit to beat Memphis and get a spot in the final of the tournament where they lost to #5 UCLA. The Ramblin? Wreck is currently ranked #21 in the AP Poll and #24 in the Coaches Poll. Since 1982 they have only lost 9 games at home. That seems almost impossible.
As you can imagine, there isn?t a lot of confidence we can win this game. Penn State has it?s own issues with a quick turnaround since the last game and several players are banged up giving us not a lot of depth. Oh, then there are the Yellow Jackets. Here?s what Ed DeChellis has to say about them.
They present a lot of challenges everywhere. They can score off the dribble. They offensive rebound the heck out of it. They pressure defense. They have a lot of ways to beat you.
I must say I share Ed?s sentiments. GA Tech will try to play an up tempo transition game. If Penn State falls into their trap they could find themselves down by a huge margin on the scoreboard in a hurry. The Lions will try to slow down the game and force Tech to play 35 seconds of defense.
This team may be too athletic and too deep for us to compete. But as Stony Brook showed us, anything is possible. GA Tech is playing a lot of freshmen, so maybe they will take us lightly and overlook us.
