That's right. The Penn State Nittany Lion basketball team lost to Shippensburg University last night in an exhibition game at the Bryce Jordan Center. Despite leading 37-28 at halftime, the Lions ended up losing the game by a score of 67-61.
With the absense of Claxton and Jackson, the Lions opened the game with three guards. Danny Morrissey led the Lions with 15 points with nine of them coming from behind the arch. Ben Luber also chipped in 13 points with three 3's of his own. But like last season, the story of the night was defense and how the Nittany Lions don't have any. Shippensburg guard Chuck Davis finished the game with 29 points.
Now granted, this was just an exhibition game, and the Lions were playing without senior guard David "Mooch" Jackson and All Big Ten Forward Geary Claxton who broke his hand last week in the 71-53 win against Edinboro, but come on. Shippensburg? They are Div. I-AA for Pete Lisicky's sake.
Time will tell if this was the result of an exhibition game attitude or if there are serious concerns about this team. With Temple on the schedule this week I thought I would step back from football for a few days and focus on the upcoming basketball season. So look for my basketball preview later in the week.
