Week 1 Preseason BlogPoll

Brian over at mgoblog finally got his act together and put out the Preseason BlogPoll. As usual, Brian combines his sharp wit with his hard hitting analysis in a manner that makes his blog one of the crown jewels of the internet. (And if he ever reads that, I'm sure that will have a permanent place on his sidebar.) Make sure you go check it out and thank him for his hard work in organizing the BlogPoll.

Here's how the Top 5 came out:

  1. Ohio State (20)
  2. Texas (11)
  3. Auburn (9) (My #1 Pick)
  4. Southern Cal (5)
  5. Notre Dame (8)
In a shocker, Cal got one first place vote from Texas A&M blogger Off Tackle. You can read his defense here. From what I gather, Cal is just the team he hates the least.

The Mr. Bold Award goes to Frank McGrath for his love of all things Florida and ranking Florida-Miami-FSU 3, 6, and 7 respectively.

Yours truly is co-winner of the Coulter/Krugman Award for showing outstanding bias in boosting the rank of their home team.  I had the Lions at #13. I don't think I was that bad ranking them six spots above the average.  Heck, Brian ranked the Wolverines at #9 which turned out to be five spots ahead of where they ended up. Also noted for the CK Award were Ramblin Racket for ranking Georgia Tech #7 and 50-Yard Lion for ranking PSU #8.  I suspect my (not-so)honorable mention was due more to my comments rather than my ballot.

The Straight Bangin' Award went to EDSBS for ranking their Florida Gators at #13 and to Rakes of Mallow for ranking the Irish at #7. That's going to piss off the NDNation crowd.

Looking at the BlogPoll, it seems the pollsters didn't know where to put the Lions as they had one of the highest standard deviations at 5.2.  Undoubtedly the questions swirl around our offensive line, quarterback, and defense. Other question mark teams included Oklahoma (6.0) due to the loss of Bomar, California (5.5), and West Virginia (5.2).
