After landing Devon Still yesterday the Lions landed another big time recruit today. Derek Moye from Rochester, PA committed to Joe Paterno yesterday when the legendary coach paid him a personal visit. Afterward the two spent an hour talking in between classes. Despite last minute attempts last night by Dave Wannstedt and the Pitt staff to sway him to that other school southwest of State College, Moye made the decision final in a press conference this afternoon.
Penn State hopes Moye can become the kind of big wide receiver they have been looking for the past several years. A Braylon Edwards/Mario Manningham type of player that can fend off physical corners, outrun safeties, and outjump their opponent for the ball. Moye has great height at 6'5". I've seen highlight film of this kid that shows him going up time and again to get a ball over the head of his defender, breaking a tackle, and outrunning the defense to the endzone. The one knock on the kid is his strength. At 180 lbs, he will probably redshirt a year and put on some weight in the gym.
Moye brings a very impressive trophy case with him to Penn State. He was named first-team All-State by the associated press and first team All-Conference by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and was named to their "Fabulous 22 team" as a senior just to name a few of his honors.
In his high school career he scored a total of 77 touchdowns for Rochester with most of them coming as a running back. As a receiver he caught 16 balls for 430 yards (26.9 avg) and 5 TD as a senior.
I can't wait to hear Steve Jones with the call, "Devlin drops back to pass. He fires. Derek Moye in the endzone TOUCHDOWN PENN STATE!" I get chills just thinking of it.
