Game Story
Not much of a story here. The Lions played their best all around game of the season. Danny Morrissey shot the lights out scoring 24 points. The game actually wasn't as close as the 83-57 score indicates. DeChellis emptied the bench in the final minutes allowing Northwestern to go on a 10-0 run to end the game.
Breaking it Down
Great win to start the Big Ten season. The Lions have now put together three solid wins in a row and seem to be coming together as a team. And it couldn't happen at a better time.
It's evident by now that the experienced Wisconsin and athletic Ohio State are going to be the cream of the Big Ten. After those two the talent level drops off and there appears to wins for the taking if the Lions continue playing at this level. The next two games against Purdue and Indiana will go a long way toward sorting out the Big Ten picture. Win both of these games and the Nittany Lions dreams of dancing in March get a big boost. Lose them and we'll be scraping for another NIT bid. At worst, we need a split.
Next Up
The Lions travel to West Lafayette to take on the Purdue Boilermakers tomorrow. The Boilermakers are playing very disciplined basketball and tough defense this year forcing a lot of turnovers. They have players back from injury and a few transfers that have them playing inspired basketball. Purdue has won 11 of their last 12 games at home so Penn State has their work cut out for them.
