Penn State Lands Mike Farrell

Two days ago we addressed one of our biggest recruiting needs when Penn State got a verbal commitment from Virginia wide receiver A.J. Price. Today we addressed another major need when offensive tackle Mike Farrell gave his commitment to play for Joe Paterno.

Not that Mike Farrell

Farrell is a 6'6" 280 lb. offensive tackle from Pittsburgh. The recruiting sites rate him a two star prospect. He is said to have quick feet and a frame that can take on another 30 lbs., but he will most likely take a redshirt to put on that weight and gain strength as most offensive linemen do.

Penn State got into the game late with him not giving him an offer until early December. His only other offer came from Miami (OH), though he saw interest from many MAC and Big East schools.

I'm not going to sit here and tell you I'm thrilled with this recruit. It's pretty obvious we missed out on all of our top targets this year, so I can guarantee Farrell is a Plan B kid. He'll probably never be an all conference player, but if he busts his butt he may one day be a starter. It's still good we got him rather than fill that roster spot with a walk on or rob from the defense.

Welcome to Penn State, Mike. Best of luck to you.
