Cinema

There is no YouTube film of Holtz, per se. But check out this video where Holtz was named Student Athlete of the Week by the local ABC affiliate in Pittsburgh. Once some video surfaces of Holtz actually playing football, we'll send it your way.

The Tale

Once Brent Wilkerson and Jesse James came on board, it was thought that the staff was done recruiting the tight end position, except maybe for FL TE Kent Taylor. Talks with Holtz appeared to drop off until recently when it was reported that Tom Bradley was back in touch with the two-way player. Holtz had planned a trip to Happy Valley for early August, but appears to have made his mind up.

Outlook

With little tape to go on, there isn't much to say here. By the accounts of the folks that have seen him play, he appears to be a strong athlete that can play on the end of either line. He's officially listed as a tight end by the services, but is apparently being recruited as a defensive ATH by the staff. If that ends up being end, linebacker, or some hybrid in between, I'm not sure. The staff has long been on record that Noah Spence is the only defensive end they are after in this class, so Holtz' position designation might just be "anywhere the staff can put him for now."

How this affects the recruitment of Taylor, whom the staff said will have a spot regardless, remains to be seen. All three "tight ends" that are current commits could (and probably will) see a position change in the future.

UPDATE: Cory James of Fight on State is reporting that Holtz will be a fullback at Penn State.

Welcome to Happy Valley, J.P.!
