BSD Week in Review & Pregame Open Thread: 9.24.11

Let's try this again, shall we? This time, keep in mind that you're Penn State, and the other team sucks, m'kay?

If you're like me, you're not going to the game today. Of course, my first-born (a boy!) child was born yesterday, so you can imagine why traveling 3.5 hours and 200 miles away from my wife wasn't in the cards for this week. But many of you aren't going today because of a bunch of things--weather, opponent quality, home team quality, etc.--that should create a perfect storm of empty seats in Beaver Stadium.

After the turd of a game Penn State laid on the Linc turf, it's not easy getting excited for this game today. Yeah, EMU is terrible, and Penn Stat should win. But it's not like Penn State hasn't looked terrible against terrible teams before. Remember 2003 Kent State, or 2004 Central Florida?

I shouldn't be all negative. The team has a chance to really work on improving the countless problems it now has, against a team that should offer some fight, but not enough to worry anyone. Follow this up with a trip to Indiana, and we could actually end up staring at a Penn State team one win away from bowl eligibility when Iowa comes calling on Oct. 8.
