After it was announced Sunday that his dominating performance over Illinois was good enough to win the Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week award, the Big Ten sought fit to award Michael Mauti with the conference's player of the week award as well.
Mauti finished Saturday's game against the Illini with six tackles, two interceptions, a forced fumble and half a sack. His disruption of the offense all day was one of the main reasons why the Illini only found the score sheet only once this week in Penn State's 35-7 victory. This is Mauti's second conference honor of the season. He also earned B1G Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against Navy two weeks ago.
On the season, Mauti ranks fourth in the Big Ten in tackles (48), fourth in interceptions (2) and first in forced fumbles (2).
Other B1G Weekly Award Winners:
Offensive: Taylor Martinez, Nebraska and Kain Colter, Northwestern
Special Teams: Brett Maher, Nebraska
Freshman: Mason Monheim, Illinois
