Women's Soccer: Penn State 4 - LIU Brooklyn 0
The top-seeded Lady Lions cruised through their first-round matchup with ease, taking out LIU-Brooklyn by a score of 4-0 on Saturday at Jeffrey Field. Maya Hayes, Christine Nairn, Raquel Rodriguez and Tani Costa all put tallies on the board and goalkeeper Erin McNulty stopped three Blackbird shots to earn the shutout victory. Hayes also added an assist to the stat sheet to round out the day with three points.
The team will stay in Happy Valley next Friday for the second round of the NCAA Tournament when they take on Boston College. Game time has yet to be announced.
Field Hockey: Penn State 2 - Albany 1
In the first round of the NCAA Field Hockey championships, Penn State defeated an upstart Albany squad to advance to Sunday's second-round matchup with Syracuse. The Lady Orange beat Massachusetts on Saturday by a score of 4-2 to advance.
Taylor Herold scored both goals for Penn State, including the game-winner which found its way into the back of the net with less than ten minutes to play. Ayla Halus made 14 saves to help notch the Penn State victory.
Penn State (18-3) and Syracuse (18-2) will face-off at 2 p.m. today at Penn State's Field Hockey Complex for a spot in the NCAA semifinals which will take place on Friday in Norfolk, Va.
