As excited as I am about this new round of expansion (whine all you want, I don't care if you hate it), I can't help but picture Jim Delany as the Emperor from Star Wars, bringing two new systems into The Galactic Empire. No idea why that image comes to mind, but it won't leave my mind. Anyway...
The press conference for Rutgers' entry into the Big Ten is set for 2 p.m. today. I'm sure it'll be all over TV, so tune in if you have a few moments. One more thing to note, which changes what I had originally thought about the timetable for Rutgers beginning Big Ten play:
Rutgers will have to pay a $10 million fee to leave the Big East Conference, a contractual obligation that also requires a 27-month waiting period before it can depart the conference. But just as it did with Syracuse and Pittsburgh, the Big East is expected to negotiate a deal with Rutgers so RU can begin play in the Big Ten in the fall of 2014.
I know a lot of you out there are from or living in the NJ/NYC area (like me), so please chime in with your thoughts about this thing.
