Jake Waters Picks Kansas State Over Penn State

The top JUCO QB prospect decides Manhattan is where he'll finish out his college career.

Iowa Western quarterback Jake Waters has chosen to finish out his football career at Kansas State, he announced in a press conference today. He chose the Wildcats over the Nittany Lions in a stunning decision as most people thought he would be heading to Happy Valley.

After getting to his presser late because of a final exam and mentioning he was a "student first", Waters let the world know that he would be heading to Manhattan after a talk with God and going with his gut. So, that's that.

Where does Penn State go from here? Steven Bench will be the only scholarship quarterback on the roster as of now when spring practice comes around. It has been rumored that the Lions might go after another JUCO quarterback in Tyler Ferguson from the College of the Sequoias in California. A tweet from Justin Hopkins of 247 Sports came out right after the Waters announcement saying Ferguson had committed to Houston but Hopkins has since backtracked and deleted the tweet.

Christian Hackenberg will be on campus come summer, but the original hope was to redshirt him for his first year so he could get acquainted with the Penn State playbook. There are also a few guys on the roster now who played quarterback in high school who might get reps such as Bill Belton and Eugene Lewis.

Only time will tell on how things shake out. But congratulations to Jake and we hope the best for you.
