The Tales
Isaah originally committed in the summer, before the sanctions came down, and reopened his recruitment when news of the unprecedentedness hit. The Nittany Lions were never out of the running, though, and Issah was one of the recruits who hit campus this weekend for their official visits, along with committed future Nittany Lions Adam Breneman, Christian Hackenberg, and a majority of the 2013 class.
Also along for the visit were Walton, who recently visited Minnesota as well, and Smith, both of whom pulled the trigger along with Issah. Ted Roof, who has multiple contacts in Walton's home state of Alabama, took point on his recruiting, and Vanderlinden was in charge of Smith, who doesn't hold a lot of stars or D1 offers but whom the staff clearly likes.
Outlook
For LBU, the cupboard was looking pretty bare following the 2013 season. That is starting to shift with the additions of Isaah and Walton, who were both recruited as linebackers by LBU. Isaah was recruited as an APB/Athlete by many other schools, which is also the case with Smith; it seems, however, that PSU will use Smith to bolster a still-bare secondary.
Walton seems to have the best size right away coming in, but look for Isaah especially to bulk up under Fitz. It's unclear whether one or both of the two linebackers will redshirt this coming season, with Wartman coming back into the lineup and the projected starters of that unit being him, Hull and Carson. With defensive backs, though, depending on how quickly Smith picks up the playbook, he has an opportunity to crack the lineup fairly quickly, similar to how Da'Quan Davis did this year, though he will be battling Jake Kiley and Jordan Lucas, who come into 2013 as RS FR, for playing time, as well as his fellow 2013 commits.
All in all, great news for an otherwise sluggish Sunday!
Welcome to Penn State, Zayd, Jonathan, and Anthony!
