Though William Penn Charter offensive tackle Mike McGlinchey doesn't have an offer yet from either of the two major in-state schools, he is hearing from some top-end program outside the Keystone State.
"I have offers from Wisconsin, Michigan, Boston College, Virginia, Maryland, Duke, Rutgers."
The offer from Wisconsin is the one that most Penn State fans will appreciate, given the Badger coaching staff's ability to coach up an offensive lineman. Already a four-star lineman on some services, McGlinchey was impressed with Madison on his recent visit.
Not convinced yet?
"I'm 6-9, 280 pounds."
That seems like the appropriate size for Donovan Smith's counterpart.
Linebacker coach Ron Vanderlinden has been by McGlinchey's Philadelphia high school "a couple of times", but he hasn't spoken with any of the staff members directly yet. He's still waiting on that Penn State offer, one that could possibly come this weekend.
"It's obviously 100% Penn State's decision. I'm just going to keep working hard and hopefully it will pay off."
Growing up in Pennsylvania, McGlinchey has already been inundated with a lot of Penn State attention. Nittany Lion fans are hoping one of the top in-state linemen will stay in-state.
"The first time I was [at Penn State] was for the Alabama game this year. And I followed them all the time. They are the main team for everybody in PA. So they are hard to get away from."
Though they haven't offered yet, Penn State would possibly move to the top of McGlinchey's list once he gets that scholarship offer. And his first priority is something that Penn State has prided itself on for some time.
"Academics are huge in my choice."
McGlinchey's out-of-school activities should interest many Penn State fans, as well. He's good friends with Nick Arcidiacono ("I've known Nick since the 4th grade") and has recently become friends with some other Penn State targets, including a top Philadelphia running back.
"I actually live right around the corner from [Archbishop] Wood and I'm good friends with all the guys. And I have become close with Dave Williams from West Catholic."
Like other 2013 recruits, McGlinchey is taking his time and taking his visits. Though he won't be there this weekend (Mike says he didn't find out about the event until it was too late, and he has a family commitment this weekend, regardless), he'll have more to think about. Any chance for a commitment? It's possible.
"I think I will try and commit somewhere before the end of school year this year."
