Penn State will attempt to continue their late-season surge as they head into the Big Ten Tournament as the three-seed Wednesday in Columbus. They will play the host Buckeyes, who grabbed the #6-seed, in the first round.

The Nittany Lions (29-25, 15-9) won their final six Big Ten series and 16 out of their last 21 overall. That includes taking two-of-three from Ohio State in late April. If the Lions take down the Buckeyes in their first game, they would then face Indiana on Thursday. Indiana (30-26, 16-8) also heated up at the end of the season, winning their last six and garnering the #2-seed in the tournament. The Hoosiers went 2-1 against the Nittany Lions at Medlar in late March, picking up 14-2 and 2-1 wins sandwiched around a 4-3 extra-inning loss.

The seedings break down as follows:

  1. Purdue (41-12, 17-7)
  2. Indiana (30-26, 16-8)
  3. Penn State (29-25, 15-9)
  4. Nebraska (34-21, 14-10)
  5. Michigan State (35-19, 13-11)
  6. Ohio State (31-25, 11-13)
Purdue, the top-seed, won the regular-season Big Ten crown for the first time since 1909 this year and will look to add a conference championship before the NCAA Tournament. Penn State (or any other Big Ten team in all likelihood), on the other hand, will have to win the conference championship to earn their way into the tournament. The Nittany Lions start their run Wednesday afternoon once the Nebraska-Michigan State game finishes up (~3:35p.m.).
