The Tale
Bell received his Penn State offer about three weeks ago, nearly a month after taking an unofficial visit to Happy Valley. He was back on campus on Thursday to meet with the coaches, who made enough of a push for Bell that the choice was clear.
Outlook
Bell is a middle linebacker at Oakcrest, and a damn fine one at that. Some other videos out there show highly touted linebackers making tackles, but they're not always the first point of attack. Bell has a nose for the ball carrier and is routinely the first one through the line to make the hit. In short, he's not James Laurinitis.
For comparison, last year's starter at MLB for Penn State, Glenn Carson, is listed at 6'3", 238 pounds. Given that Bell is only a rising senior, adding 20 pounds of muscle shouldn't be too difficult for the young man. He should grow well into the style of play that Ron Vanderlinden, both his position coach and main recruiter, look for out of the Mike position.
Bell is quick (he also runs the ball for Oakcrest), can stay lateral to let the play develop, and seems to constantly find himself around the football. Or, as we call them at Penn State, a linebacker.
