Jeff Hartings was one of the baddest cats ever to wear put on the blue and white. He pushed opposing defenders around like they were wearing roller skates. His style of play is the definition of smashmouth football. In the 16 seasons since Hartings graduated, no Penn State offensive lineman has matched his intensity and determination to demoralize the person on the other side of the ball.
Hartings was drafted by the Detroit Lions with the 23rd overall draft pick in the 1995 draft, joining Kerry Collins, Ki-Jana Carter and Kyle Brady as the fourth player of the '94 Penn State offense to be drafted in the first round. Hartings started in 160 games during an NFL career that spanned eleven season with the Lions and Steelers.
