EA Sports: Which Heisman Winner Would You Want At Penn State?

The fine folks over at EA Sports have asked the college blogs of SB Nation to help promote NCAA Football 13 and we here at BSD were more than happy to oblige when they provided the theme we were to write about. As the theme of this year's game is the Heisman, this first post will ask: Which past Heisman Trophy winner do you wish played on your team?

Now it would be easy to say that Robert Griffin III, last year's Heisman winner, would be the choice considering the quarterback debacle we endured last year. But in the spirit of having fun and learning something along the way, I decided to open up the history books and do a little digging.

My choice definitely doesn't represent a position of need for a Penn State squad from this Heisman winner's year. In fact, Penn State defeated this Heisman winner for the national championship with our position player outplaying him in the Sugar Bowl. By this time, you've probably guessed that my pick for Penn State's Heisman pickup is Herschel Walker.

In that 1983 Sugar Bowl win that gave Penn State its first national championship, the Nittany Lion's own Curt Warner outrushed Walker 177-103 on ten less rushes, but there's no doubt to the explosiveness and excitement that Walker brought to the college game during his time at Georgia. It's why he's considered the greatest running back in college history and maybe the best player overall in NCAA history.

During his junior season in 1982, Walker gained 1,752 yards and scored 16 touchdowns before heading to the NFL the next year. By no stretch of the imagination would I ever want to replace Curt Warner, but could you imagine a two-headed monster such as that in the backfield that season?

Consideration was also given to O.J. Simpson, who won the Heisman in 1968, the same year Penn State had its first undefeated season with Charlie Pittman as the top running back on the Nittany Lion squad.

Now, we ask you: Which former Heisman winner would you have loved to see in a Penn State uniform?
