Earlier today, a rumor appeared on Lions247 that redshirt junior wide receiver Shawney Kersey was booted from the football team and tonight, many places are reporting that a college football source has confirmed that Kersey is no longer with the team

The source says that Kersey is leaving the team for personal reasons, but rumors have said that Kersey has been disruptive in practice and not getting along with teammates. Former Penn State wide receiver Justin Brown also decided to weigh in on the situation from Oklahoma, also hinting that personal reasons are not the cause for Kersey's departure.

Because if anybody should be chiming in on Penn State's wide receiver depth, it's Justin Brown.

UPDATE 9:54 P.M. Brown has since deleted the second tweet and said "Took that tweet way out of context lol". If you say so, Justin.

Kersey has been less than impressive after coming into the season as the leading returning receiver from last year after the Brown and Devon Smith transfers. In two games, he caught six passes for 44 yards, but had two big drops in the Ohio game, one that could have been for a touchdown. While this hurts the depth at the wideout position, it would be wrong to say that this was a huge blow for the Nittany Lions.

Coach O'Brien will now have to choose which receiver will start alongside Allen Robinson and Alex Kenney. The two choices seem to be Matt Zanellato or true freshman Trevor Williams who was making major strides towards the end of summer camp.
