Success With Hyperlinking Isn't Forgetting Basketball

(Watch Part 2 of GoPSUSports' interview with Coach Chambers here)

Haha, suckers! Looking for some football previews before all the gridiron action this weekend? Too bad! When it's my turn for SwH duty, you best believe it's gonna be basketball-themed.

Roster Announcements - Penn State finally released some deets about the 2012-2013 hoops roster. Nick Colella has indeed been granted one of the open scholarships for this upcoming season, as expected. Please save the jokes, because the kid has gone from D-III and women's practice player to a Big Ten scholarship athlete. No need to hate on that accomplishment. In other, more surprising news, the staff has added 6'1" G Zach Cooper as a preferred walk-on. Cooper hails from Urbana, MD, and attended the same high school as former PSU QB Zack Mills. He played one season at D-III Alfred University and then transferred to Gulf Coast State College in Florida. He has two years of eligibility, but it's not expected he'll see much, if any time on the floor.

Newbill Named Captain - Coach Chambers has not hesitated at any chance to talk up DJ Newbill, but actions speak louder than words. The redshirt sophomore who has not yet suited up for the Nittany Lions has already been named a captain for this upcoming season. Big things coming from this guy.

Freshmen Getting Ripped - So Fitz's sandpit isn't just for the football team. The hoops team has been getting it in with strength coach Brad Pantall, and they've been seeing the results, especially the freshmen. Donovon Jack is gaining weight, while Brandon Taylor is shedding it. Both will need to stay on this path if they want to make big impacts this season.

#DoWorkPat - Quick hoops recruiting update. With Payton Banks' commitment, PSU has strengthened their wing positions for the future, but they still have one scholarship to give to the 2013 class. With offers out to both wing and point guard prospects, PSU seems to be taking a best player available approach. Everyone wants Josh Hart, but PSU is keeping their options open with other potential players. Meanwhile, Brandon Austin is involved with Syracuse, Georgetown, Florida, and Syracuse.

Jim Calhoun Retires - He could've gone out gracefully after Kemba brought him another NCAA championship, but instead, he's leaving a program on probation with not much of a cupboard. See ya later, Jim!

Because This Makes Sense - The NCAA has deemed Myles Davis and Sam Cassell Jr. ineligible after they threw out four core classes from a prep academy powerhouse ineligible. However, eight of the players' classmates who were in those same exact classes are out there with a free education playing big-time D-1 hoops. Culture.

Notre Dame to the ACC - An informative profile of the Irish's hoops program (they rank 9th in the all-time wins?) and how it will fit into the new mega-ACC. Sorry for the all the CBS links but their hoops reporters are simply the best in the biz.

Now, back to your originally scheduled football programming.
