Our hearts and prayers go out to DJ Newbill and his family for the loss of his mother. God Bless

It's been a somber week for the Penn State basketball family as DJ Newbill's mother, Tawanda Roach, suddenly passed away last week, losing her fight with cancer just a few shorts weeks after her diagnosis, according to Jeff Rice at 247. The entire team traveled to Philadelphia today with Newbill for the funeral service.
While many fans may not have met Newbill, who has yet to see the floor in a Nittany Lions' uniform, our thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family during these tough times.
Newbill is expected to be a major player for the basketball team this season, hence why he was already named a captain despite never playing a game in the BJC. Unfortunately this is another sad chapter for the Philadelphia native, who has had more than his fair share already. In the summer of 2010, Newbill also lost his well-respected hoops mentor John Hardnett. Two months later he had his college future pulled out from under him at the last minute by Marquette, who wanted to make room for a coveted transfer. Needless to say, it's going to be pretty easy to root for Newbill this season.
Again, we here at BSD offer our condolences to the Newbill family. The Penn State family is behind you.
