Women's Volleyball vs Minnesota Open Thread

Cari Greene/BSD

After an Indiana road trip that saw victories over the Hoosiers and the #24 ranked Purdue Boilermakers, the Nittany Lions return home tonight, taking on #11 Minnesota, once again #4 in the national (having fallen to #5 after their five-set loss to MSU a week and a half ago). The Golden Gophers are themselves coming off a bad weekend, dropping their first B1G match of the year in straight sets at then- #10 Nebraska before clawing out a five set win over unranked Iowa.

The last time these two teams met was in the 2012 NCAA regional semi final, with the Nittany Lions pulling out the win in four sets. The Nittany Lions are 40-8 all time over the Gophers, with the last loss coming in 2010.

Micha Hancock comes into tonight's match the national leader in aces per set, with .82 per set and 40 so far this year. Last weekend, she brought her career total up to 212, and as a junior, looks to have her name in the PSU (and potentially conference and national) record books.

Coach Russ Rose also may hit a milestone within the coming days, as at 1,103 career wins to date, he's only three wins away from tying the #2 coach in the record books. Current Hawai'i coach Dave Shoji is the current all-time leader (as of September of this year) with 1,118, fifteen ahead of the Nittany Lion head coach.
