Sorry for the lateness of this recap hockey fans, things came up at the beginning of this week leaving me to be super busy. But better late than never, right?

Penn State 5 Robert Morris 4

The Penn State Nittany Lions Men's Ice Hockey team improved to 2-3-1 with a 5-4 victory over the Colonials of Robert Morris on Friday. As the score would suggest, this was a wild one out in Pittsburgh. 11 different Lions registered a point in this one, including 5 different goal scorers.

Robert Morris struck first thanks to a Cody Wydo goal (Get used to seeing that name), which ended up being the only tally of the first frame. In the second period the Lions took a 3-1 lead, thanks to Eric Scheid, Luke Juha, and Tommy Olczyk all lighting the lamp. Cody Wydo would scored again late in the period to pull Robert Morris to within one. A few minutes into the 3rd period, the Colonials earned a penalty shot. Guess who took it? Wydo picked up his hat trick with the shot that buzzed past net-minder, Matthew Skoff. Casey Bailey of Penn State answered back a few minutes later to give PSU the lead once more, before a Mike Williamson goal added on a cushion to the lead. Wydo picked up his 4th tally of the game with a few seconds left, but that wasn't enough for the Colonials to complete the comeback.

Scheid, Juha, Olczyk, Bailey, and Williamson each had a goal in this one, with Juha's, Bailey's, and Williamson's all coming on the power play. David Goodwin, Dylan Richard, Ricky DeRosa, Nate Jensen (2), Max Gardiner, and Taylor Holstrom (2) all contributed assists on said goals. Casey Bailey led the Lions in shots overall, piling up 10. Matthew Skoff made a career-high 48 saves on the night. Williamson also led the team in blocks on the night with 6.

Cody Wydo scored 4 goals on the night for the Colonials, and was assisted by Tyler Wilson*, Scott Jacklin (2), Ben Robillard, and Zac Lynch (2). Wydo expectedly led Robert Morris in shots with 9. Goalie Terry Shafer sent away 36 shots for his team.

*That's right, you read correctly. Matt McGloin embarrassed Tyler Wilson so badly at Raiders pre-season camp, that Wilson decided to return to college as a hockey player. That's what happens when you mess with the Scranton Gunslinger.
