Oh, Hello: VA OT Chasz Wright Commits To Penn State

Not to read too much into it, but...would a commit commit if he thought a head coach was leaving?

The Tale:

Wright had originally committed and signed his LOI with the Huskies back in February of this year over the NC State Wolfpack and the Nittany Lions, but spent the fall at Milford Academy in Connecticut; it is unclear whether this was due to academics, or further player development.

The offensive lineman, who had played defensive line in high school but was recruited to the offense, was still firmly committed to UConn up until the firing of the team's head coach, Paul Pasqualoni, in October. Shortly after, Wright reopened his recruitment.

Temple offered the lineman shortly after, and Wright committed last week. He soon switched to Penn State, over a year after first receiving his offer from the Nittany Lions (who originally offered Wright as a member of their 2012 class), and 18 months after camping in University Park.

Outlook:

What LJ Senior wants, he typically gets; we'll see if Wright ends up on the defensive or offensive side of the ball, as he's had experience on both sides. With an extra year out of high school, Wright is already of decent size, and the fact that the Nittany Lions were still high on him a year later means he didn't lose a step in prep school this fall.

As a defensive lineman at Hylton (in LJ Sr's stronghold of NoVa), Wright notched 55 tackles and seven sacks his senior year. His size and experience will likely mean that, once he gets on campus, he can contribute much quicker than some who need extra time with Coach Fitz.

Welcome to Penn State, Chasz!
