The Penn State women's basketball team didn't need to wait long to hear their names announced on Selection Monday as the Lady Lions were given the third seed in the Spokane Region, the first bracket announced tonight. Their opponent will be the 14th-seeded Cal-Poly Lady Mustangs (21-10) who won the Big West Tournament for their first-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament. The teams will play on Sunday night at 5:00 p.m. in Baton Rouge.
The victor of that game will take on the winner of (6) LSU and (11) Green Bay on Tuesday. Penn State defeated LSU in Baton Rouge in last year's second round of the women's Big Dance by the score of 90-80.
Coquese Washington and her team were bounced out of the Big Ten Tournament early, but were still the Big Ten's top seed in the tourney, leading a field of six teams from the conference getting bids this year. Michigan is also in the Spokane Region as the eight-seed.
Joining Penn State as the top seeds of the region are (1) Stanford, (2) California and (4) Georgia. Baylor, Connecticut and Notre Dame are the other three #1 seeds in the tournament.
The entire tourney bracket can be found on the NCAA's website.
