The Tale:

Allen comes highly recruited, earning offers from more than 25 schools from mainly ACC and Big Ten schools. His home state Terrapins were the first to offer him back in June, but other schools started to take notice after a junior season that saw him rack up 69 tackles and two interceptions at the free safety position according to MaxPreps. Allen made two unofficial visits to Happy Valley, the last one coming during the Blue-White Game. Larry Johnson, who has controlled recruiting in the state of Maryland for what seems like centuries, took the lead with Allen and made sure that he knew wearing the blue and white was the best option for him.

Looking at his high school film, Allen is a big hitter, which should get Penn State fans excited. It should be no surprise that he can lay the lumber to people with his 6-foot-plus, 185-pound frame. To go along with his two interceptions in the 2012 season, he also had nine pass deflections which shows he has the speed to catch up with routes and knock a ball loose.

Allen's commitment is the second from a secondary position in as many Fridays, a move from the skill position commits that were fast and furious during the early part of the 2014 class. With the likes of Ohio State and Michigan upgrading their passing offenses in the past couple years with the arrivals of Urban Meyer and Al Borges (OC for the Wolverines), a strong secondary will be needed for years to come in the Big Ten and it looks as though Coach O'Brien and company are laying the foundation for that early on.

Allen becomes the eighth commitment of the 2014 class.

Welcome to Penn State, Marcus!
