Oh, Hello: MI LB Jared Wangler Commits To Penn State

Oh, you thought Bill O'Brien was done for the day?

Jared Wangler, ladies and gentlemen!

Home/HS: Warren, MI/De La Salle HS
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 215 lbs

Recruited by: Ron Vanderlinden

Starz 'n Sheetz
Stars: 2* Rivals, 3* 247 and Scout
Offer Sheet: Bowling Green, Buffalo, Cincinnati, Eastern Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio, Toledo, Western Michigan, Yale

The Tale:

Wangler received a lot of interest from schools in the MAC, but decided between two Big Ten schools when it came to be decision time. The Michigan native had the chance to stay close to home with an offer from the Spartans of Michigan State, but in the end, the linebacker prospect couldn't pass up being recruited by Penn State and Ron Vanderlinden. It's Linebacker U already! Plus, he looks like a young Poz for those who are into dominant linebackers and for all the BSDiva types who are into dreamy linebackers.

During his junior season, Wangler came up with 76 tackles and seven sacks to lead his De La Salle team. After bulking up in the past year, schools have projected him as an outside linebacker. That doesn't mean Craig Fitzgerald will be done with him once he gets on campus.

Wangler is not the highest-rated prospect in Penn State's class, but as he noted himself in talking with Ryan Snyder of BWI, Vanderlinden knows how to coach linebackers. With the depth issues we are seeing heading into the 2013 season at linebacker, the position is something that O'Brien and staff needed to solidify with this class and Wangler's commitment certainly helps with that.

Jared becomes the ninth commitment of the 2014 class. He joins Troy Reeder as future Penn State linebackers picked up in this recruitment period.

Welcome to Penn State, Jared!
