The Tale
Ask and Pat Chambers shall deliver unto ye an athletic big man with tremendous upside. At least that's what the early reports indicate for class of 2015 PF/C Mike Watkins, who committed to Penn State on Wednesday night. While Watkins' offer sheet is non-existent, it was expected that he would see his recruitment pick up, being a talented big man from Philly and all who recently reclassified from 2014. He's also a product of Team Philly, the same AAU squad from which current Nittany Lion Brandon Taylor hails. If it wasn't safe to say before, it is now--Chambers is making serious inroads in Philly.
And now, Interesting Tweet Theater:
Watkins to Penn State is very interesting. I wouldn't be surprised if that opens back up at some point. It's early and his ceiling is high.

Huge get, dominated down in VA MT @therecruitscoop Penn State has landed a verbal commitment from 2014 Team Philly (PA) forward Mike Watkins

Watkins is the program's first commitment in what is a vital class of 2015. Before tonight, the staff had five scholarships to work with in the class that will replace the likes D.J. Newbill, Ross Travis and John Johnson. Should he end up signing with the program, Watkins is scheduled to join a frontcourt with Brandon Taylor, Donovon Jack (both would-be seniors), Julian Moore (junior) and Jordan Dickerson (junior). While that's a long ways away, it's worth keeping an eye on to see what kind of positional balance Chambers will elect to bring in. Based on what we know about Watkins, it seems like the staff already has their shot-blocker.
Welcome, Michael!
