Oh, Hello: SMU Transfer C Jordan Dickerson Commits to Penn State

Pat Chambers adds size to a roster that desperately needs it, though his latest grab in the transfer market won't see the floor until 2014-15.

The Tale

With the early departure of Sasa Borovnjak, Penn State was left with limited frontcourt options heading into 2013-14. Even with today's addition of SMU transfer Jordan Dickerson, that will still be the case as the 7-footer will be required to sit out the upcoming season due to NCAA rules. Unlike Allen Roberts, Dickerson is a second-year undergrad player that saw limited but eligibility-affecting action in 2012. Unless he applies for and receives a hardship waiver for 2013-14 (which seems unlikely), we won't see Dickerson in action until 2014-15.

What is Penn State getting with Dickerson? It's hard to say, really. He originally committed to Larry Brown's Pony Project over offers from several major conference teams, including Providence, South Carolina and Auburn, but was unable to earn significant minutes as a freshman on a 15-17 C-USA team. The learning curve for big men is usually steeper, though, so look into that what you will. He certainly has a B1G frame, and it'll be up to Brian Daly to mold Dickerson into a capable post threat. Don't discount the impact he'll have on this year's scout team, either--Mitch McGary body doubles don't grow on trees.

Welcome, Jordan!
